Is it an Agent, or just a Program?
Lots of people are talking about agents, but that’s not new. People have been proposing and debating definitions of software agents for more than thirty years.
But what has delivered on the hype? “Agentic AI” is great bait for clicks and consulting, but the most useful improvements to our lives have come from making it easier for agents programs to communicate using APIs.
APIs are how software gets things done. If we really want agents that do useful things, let’s make it easier and safer for software to communicate using APIs.
